Overall, security encompasses
many different platforms and procedures. Simple file level security can
be implemented using the Network Operating System (NOS). This will
prevent the novice user from accessing information that is restricted.
Along with company policies, this should be fine for 90% of the average
employees. If your organization allows outside access via the Internet
or dialup connections, your risk increases dramatically.
If NOS level security is the
extent of your protective systems today, there are those who would take
advantage of such measures. NOS level security must be implemented in
conjunction with hardware or dedicated security products.
